Insights on Literature, etiquette, and Beauty from a Catholic wife and mom

This summer has been a peaceful one. The past few weeks have been filled with playground and beach trips, Peter’s swim and soccer lessons, and visits to museums and the library. Last summer was really busy for us, with something on the calendar every day! We moved out of the convent house we were taking care of and into our home, I went on a pilgrimage to Italy, and Mike went to a Steubenville retreat. By the time Autumn came we were exhausted and drained. This summer we made a decision to stay here in Buffalo. It’s so good to rest and take it a bit slower, together as a family!

Peter starts Catechesis of the Good Shepherd this September! He is so excited to begin! I will also be using Twenty-Six Letters to Heaven: A Catholic Preschool Curriculum throughout the week with him this year. I love this age (three) because he is so eager to learn and play, he is communicating more, and full of wonder and creativity!

A few weeks ago I went to see a priest and counselor to receive healing of memories. I didn’t expect the extent of healing I’d receive. He used a method called EMDR, and I cannot recommend it enough! EVERY single person needs healing of some kind – mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s important not to wait to get healing, life is too short and each person has too much to offer the world. I truly believe that our world and our relationships with one another would be a different place if we all would seek the healing we need.

Last week our friend Lisa came over to take pictures of Peter and me. She has such a gift for capturing candid, everyday moments. Her photographs are stunning! The pictures in this post are all taken by her and we will treasure them always!

One last thing – Mike and I started watching the Father Brown series and it’s SO good! The mysteries really draw you in and the entire show has strengthened our faith in a lot of ways. We just finished Season 3 and cannot wait to begin the 4th!
