Insights on Literature, etiquette, and Beauty from a Catholic wife and mom

One of the gifts we gave to our friends and family this Christmas, along with our homemade beeswax candles, was homemade pasta. We had so much fun making and distributing our little gift bags of rigatoni, stamped with Peter’s adorable face, and tied up with ribbon! We called it “Peter’s Pasta”, and we think it was a hit!

We first came up with the idea of Peter’s Pasta last year on my birthday when I opened the present Mike had gotten me, a pasta attachment for my KitchenAid. I had always made pasta with a hand-cranked machine, and I could not wait to try this new kitchen gadget out! We had just found out that I was pregnant with a boy and we knew we were going to name him Peter. We had also just recovered from a very busy Christmas season and we realized the necessity to simplify the upcoming Christmas. After planning Peter’s Pasta for many months, it was amazing to see it completed this Christmas!

I have tried many different recipes for pasta, but I always go back to Gwyneth Paltrow’s recipe from her cookbook, My Father’s Daughter. It was the first pasta recipe I ever tried, and it remains my favorite! We wrapped our rigatoni in small treat bags and tied the bags with gold twist-ties. I combined white and Tiffany-blue colored ribbon around the twist-ties for a special touch. We used a picture of Peter in his chef Halloween costume for the stickers we placed on the center of each bag. We love how this homemade gift turned out!
